Jardine Enterprises has worked with the CPSC to recall 320,000 cribs sold at various stores.
The wooden slats in the cribs can break. This creates a gap that causes a serious strangulation and entrapment hazard for infants.
So far there have been at least 42 reported occurrences of the slats and spindles breaking in these recalled cribs. Several children have already been trapped in the space created by the broken piece of wood, although – thankfully – none suffered from serious injuries other than bruises and abrasions.
These cribs were made in China and Vietnam and sold at various retail locations throughout the United States and other countries. If you have any of the cribs listed below, stop using them immediately and contact Jardine’s hotline to receive full credit toward the purchase of a new crib: 1-800-646-4106.
If any of your crib slats have broken stop using the crib immediately and contact the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to report the incident.
The crib recall includes several models of cribs sold at Babies “R” Us, Kidsworld, Geoffrey Stores, and Toys “R” Us since January of 2002:

I am so frustrated at this recall! We received our crib from my parents when my first son was born. I am now using it with our second son and planned on using for all of my children. It is a very nastalgic piece and I am very disappointed that the company wasn’t efficent enough to make a crib that would stand the tests of time. Yes, I am glad they are willing to replace the crib, but to be honest I DON’T WANT A NEW CRIB! I would really like my old crib fixed if there is a problem because I am very sentamental when it comes to my children.
The process for this recall is unworkable. Per their process you have to ship in hardware and the crib label and wait 2-4 weeks to get a replacement voucher. In the meantime they say that you can go purchase a new crib and try to get a cash refund from the crib replacement voucher when it arrives.
A person at Jardine said that my daughters baby could just sleep with her for the 2-4 weeks while they are waiting for the replacement.
Since Babies R Us is making a profit on both the old and new crib they should be handling the hardware verification and crib replacement. Your thoughts?
What a flippin JOKE…I too have one of the recalled cribs. Maybe Jardine shouldn’t be “recommending” children sleep with their parents…do you know how many children are killed that way??? BUT then again I guess that is what they were out to do making these peice of crap cribs.
I am SO annoyed. So they want me to wait 4 weeks to get some voucher. My son despises a pack and play. I have no choice BUT to go get a crib NOW. I guess I will sell the voucher on ebay LOL.
You can go back with your voucher and receipt to Babies R Us and get your money back that you laid out for the crib. That’s the only good thing about all of this.
The voucher I will be getting back won’t cover the cost of any crib equivalent to what I have in terms of type of wood and quality. Plus they expect you to pay for tax and shipping even though we did when we first bought the crib. This is not my problem that they’ve been negligent in building safe cribs.
I have been trying to speak with a Jardine manager for 6 days and am getting no where. I have now filed a formal complaint with Toys R Us and am waiting to hear back and am in the process of contacting Fox News to bring the story to them. I am also contacting the attorney general in Connecticut as well as CPSC. Jardine doesn’t care that my daughter is sleeping in an unsafe crib while they neglect to call me back with any answers. I refuse to be out of pocket any more than I’ve already spent for this garbage.
I suggest we all do the same. Maybe if enough people complain, something will change.
I am so glad to know that I am not the only one completely disgusted with this recall. It’s sad to me that other companies are willing to let you return their product to a store and either get a refund or replacement, but a crib company is so neglegent that they make you wait over a month to get your child back in a safe crib. When I called Jardine, the woman I spoke with was rude and rushed me. Shouldn’t they be apologetic and willing to help you – seeing as how they’ve put our babies at risk? I still can’t believe it took a WEEK to get my initial packet. Where is the urgency? I too will contact FOX news. Something must be done to hold this company accountable!
I’m glad to read these comments! I found out about this recall and was furious – I chose my Jardine crib because of the beautiful powder blue colour, and the first one they sold me was broken beyond any possible use. They kept my money and said they would loan me a moses basket till it arrived. 4 months it took to get that crib! My son was far too big for the moses basket and ended up sleeping with us.
So to hear it was recalled was so annoying! I rang BabiesRUs and told them I no way wanted another crib from them after the agro they had caused. They basically said ‘tough.’ Jardine is handling the recall, and because it was a voluntary recall toysrus don’t have to refund us. If only it had been a forced recall we would have got refunds or at the very least a voucher to be used on other stuff – because let’s face it – how many of us have already bought cribs elsewhere?
Oh well, a lot of new mothers will be very pleased with their discounted brand new toysrus cribs I see so many people are already selling…
After a month, I finally received my voucher. I headed straight to BabiesR Us and guess what…no cribs! Every crib was sold out. I was even willing to settle for a crib in a totally different style and/or finish than the other nursery furniture-just to have a safe place for my 2 month old to sleep. Not only was this not a very efficient way to handle the recall, but there apparently was no additional inventory allowance made for all these cribs that would need to be replaced. Now I have a useless voucher, a useless and unsafe crib, and a two month old with no place to sleep. Do they really think that parents who are safety conscious enough to respond to the recall would put their infant children in the bed with them? The WHOLE point of getting a new crib is to keep our little ones safe while they are sleeping.
I need to know what i can do, because I was planning to use this crib with a rail as a day bed for a little bit longer. Please respond.
Thank you,
Zulema
It is really scary to go out and buy an item that was suppossed to be checked for all safety issues and to find out the hard way, so sad for the parents who had a bad experience. All my love,
Zulema
hi my name is ryan and i am totally pissed off with this no good so called crib company. i first called when i seen the recall on the news and was furious then. they sent me a packet i had got it in about 4 days so i figured everything was going smooth well guess what it has been like 4 weeks no word yet as my son does not have a bed i think this is bull and if i do not recieve somethin in a couple of days you guys will see my face on the news they are taking advantage of us and they are involving our kids lets stand up and shut them down
Anyone having problems with the Jardine glider? I’ve been looking for a customer service number for Jardine Enterprises or a website, but have had no luck. I called Babys-r-us and they said they did not have a number for them. Can anyone help?
I dont think babies r us should have to be involved with dealing with the hardware. They are just a retailer that carries that companies items, it is not babies r us’ fault. They are being very nice and conciderate.
Babies R Us as well as the manufacture is responsible for selling an inferior product that puts our babies at risk. Since they are the biggest baby retailer i know , they should make this recall easier for parents. We trust them to have quality products in their stores ( Jardine cribs models that are recalled, is exclusive to them ) and they should understand that as a parent I have spent thousands of dollars in their stores as many other parents have. We as consumers do not meet with manufactures and do not discuss the quality measures taken to make sure their products are safe. That is the job for Babies R Us buyers. We trust that this retailer will protect the American consumers and provide us with quality, safe products and when their process has failed they should be take responsibility and not distant themselves from the issue. For my next child i will certainly be looking for a different baby store to purchase my products
You really don’t need to deal with Jardine directly. Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us has their own return policy for defective or recall merchandise. I bought my daughter’s crib at a Toys-R- US in late 2005 –I wanted to keep in case we had another baby–as I loved the bed. Anyway–we went to Toys-R-Us and they said they would give me a merchandise credit if i bring the bed in with all the hardware.I did and and a merchandise credit. This was a lot less hassle than dealing with JArdine directly–i was ready some horrible feedback on this company about how they were handling this recall. I honestly think JARDINE will be out of business soon. Hope this helps someone–but yes ToysRUs is standing by their product and taking care of their customers.
This year I had my second child and it has been the biggest recall year ever! Her carseat was recalled, I called the company and they took care of it. The bassinet by Simplicity which I used for her sister as well was also recalled, I took it to Walmart and they gave me a store credit, no questions. Then this stupid Jardine crib! I call them and they send that stupid packet so I can take it apart & send them the pieces. Also, if the replacement crib costs more then I have to pay more! I think it should be the retailers taking the items back, but Babies r Us is always a pain with returns! Never had a problem anywhere else. This should be changed, my little one has been forced to sleep in a pack n play!
I have two of the recalled cribs. My children are now 2 and 5. My two year old was using his as a toddler bed and I was just getting ready to get a full size mattress to do the final conversion for my 5 year olds (he had been using a spare twin in the meantime). Now that the cribs are recalled both my sons are sleeping on extra twin size bed I just happened to have. The thing that bugs me is I have 2 vouchers for “cribs only”. The point of having the lifetime crib was so the bed would last their youth. I do not want to buy two cribs just so I can immediately convert them to full sizes which I will still have to hunt down rails for. So I want my money back because I did not get full use of the product but all I have is two vouchers that are only good for cribs! Does anyone have any suggestions besides just buying two cribs and trying sell them? Does anybody know what the refund policy at ToysRus/BabiesRus is for items purchased with a voucher? I will say I am so grateful my kids were not in the crib phase of use. I really feel for those of you who had to deal with that. Thanks
I used the crib for both my kids and was still using it for one of them. I wasn’t told anything about the recall till I was getting ready to buy the conversion kid to transform it into a toddler/tween bed, and my surprise when I Google it and found the recall. Outrageous, not only I wasn’t notified even though I bought the crib brand new from Babies R Us but knowing that I have to wait so long for the whole process. Even worst, I have to wait and see what will happen since I could not find the label, so hope they do something about it (I know my crib is under the recall since I still have the instruction manual for it with the model number on it).
For now I have to figure out where to put my kids to sleep which most likely means someone will have to sleep on the floor. Babies R Us should do the whole check, refund and such immediately and not have to go through the whole crap.
I also have the recalled crib. I was not too upset because I didn’t use the crib my husband insisted on our daughter sleeping with us. I did however want to use the full function of the product as a toddler/day bed and was upset. I figured I’d deal with it and went to look for a new crib. The cribs out do not compare to the one I had. The only one’s that were anywhere near equivalent were$100 more and I did not want to pay that. Also there were limited cribs in cherry and considering I got the matching armoire I wanted it to match. I ended up finding one online that I somewhat liked in coffee instead of cherry. My daughter is now in a daybed so I figure if anything I’ll use the crib for my next child and buy a matching dresser in coffee color. I’m not too happy about it but it’s just one of them t hings that unfortunately I could complain and gripe about but it will end up getting me nowhere…good luck to everyone else
What the hell is up with all these recalls! How do these things get past inspections?
It seems like every other thing for babies is being recalled.
Come on America! We need stricter rules for manufacturers.
I didn’t know until today that I had one of the recalled cribs- and the way I found out is b/c I can’t find the hardware and looked it up to see if I could find a replacement set of hardware….but if that is one of the things I have to send in for a voucher for a crib, I d/k what to do….I honestly haven’t had any problems at at with mine in the past, but would like a solution….anybody got any ideas???
Ok so I am using my sons crib as a toddler bed now. I just found out about the recall when I was trying to find the conversion rails for the full size bed. For this recall how much of the bed do I have to mail back? Am I stuck with having to get rid of the rest? Has anyone bought another crib and immediately returned it for cash? Help is it worth the big pain in the butt?
Crystal,
You have to send all the hardware (nuts, bolts, screws) along with a signed agreement and the labels of the crib or pics of the labels. However….in my case being over in Japan, we stored the pieces we weren’t going to need for our crib when we moved and I have no access to anything in storage for another 3 years!!!!
I just found out about my convertible crib recall. I purchased mine in 2005! We are a military family that moves around a lot and I don’t know how I’m going to get my replacement because we live all the way in Japan! We do not have Babies R Us or FedEx! Reading all of the posts makes me lose any hope that they will help me get a replacement. If they can’t help people in America, how the heck can they help me?!
