Play Yard Recall - 1 Million Recalled: Kolcraft, Carter's Sesame Street, Jeep, Care Bear and More

The CPSC is alerting consumers of a play yard recall involving play yards distributed by Kolcraft Enterprises.

This play yard recall affects the following Kolcraft distributed brands:
Kolcraft Travelin’ Tot, Sesame Street, Jeep, Care Bear, Eric Carle, Carter’s, and Contours The model numbers are listed below.

The play yard’s side rail may not properly latch, which poses a fall hazard to infants and toddlers. When a child pushes against the rail it can unexpectedly unlatch.

Kolcraft has received at least 347 reports of this incidence, with at least 21 of them resulting injured children.

Some of these recalled play yards will have a bassinet and/or baby diaper changing table. Some may also have a mobile, vibrating unit, or a parent organizer. The following model numbers are printed on white stickers on one of the play yard feet:

The recalled play yards were sold at stores across the country, including Babies R Us, Kmart, Sears, Walmart, Target and many other retailers, including online stores. The were sold from January 2000 to January 2009. The price was usually between $50 and $160. These products were made in China, Spain and Italy.

CPSC is advising parents and guardians to stop using the products involved in this play yard recall immediately, and to contact Kolcraft at (866) 594-4208 for a free repair kit.

Some of the play yards involved in this recall (with changing tables) were already recalled in 2007 due to a strangulation hazard, which resulted in the death of a 10-month old baby.
